The Malta Hypogeum – which is the Greek word for “Underground” – was first found in 1902 by accident, when a stone mason broke through the roof while laying housing foundations. Here there was discovered a lost world – halls and chambers carved out of the rock, and housing carvings, beads, pottery and human bones. There are three levels, the oldest dating back as far as 3000BC. The site has such an allure than many myths have been created about it. Visitors to Malta hotels can enter the Hypogeum, but only 80 a day are permitted, to preserve this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Hydroponic gardening is a way of growing plants without soil and has been around for centuries. An important part of hydroponic gardening is to ensure that the humidity is at the right level, especially in the early stage of plant growth. It’s good to encourage a young plant to grow a healthy root system as this means that it will become hardier and will have a higher yield potential.
A great way to ensure high humidity while a plant is becoming established is to use a propagation dome which is a bit like a miniature greenhouse, as it fits securely over the pot so that any moisture cannot escape, elevating the humidity levels within the dome. These propagation domes generally have vents on the top which can be gradually adjusted to give greater control of the humidity levels which allows the plant to gradually get used to the hydroponic greenhouse. Introducing the plant to the humidity levels of its surrounding area in this way lessens the amount of stress and ensures that it will be able to withstand the humidity once the dome is removed.
A wide variety of crops can be grown in hydroponic greenhouses and include peppers, cucumber, lettuce, herbs, tomatoes and strawberries. It’s an especially good way of ensuring that fresh fruit and vegetables can be grown in colder climates and is a very profitable way for commercial growers to use greenhouses. However it still remains an interesting way for the keen home gardener to experiment with growing new crops.

The persistent problem, which won’t see any headway for the foreseeable future, is the price of renting cars in Hawaii. Rental car surcharges have gone up and now they can easily add a third to your overall costs of renting a car in Hawaii. Frankly, in my opinion, Hawaii must have some of the highest surcharges in the nation for renting a car, if not the highest. It’s outrageous that car rentals in Hawaii are so high and the part that makes it so expensive almost nothing to do with the actual cost of renting a car.
This has been a recurring problem in Hawaii. Whenever tax revenues are down, the first inclination is to have the tourists pay for the shortfall. What some in Hawaii persistently fail to realize that Hawaii is slowly; but surely pricing itself out of the market as a sun and fun destination product.
