I had no idea how long it would take to get here! It seems life I have been in an airport or airplane for a week straight, even though it was only 15 hours of flying. I am glad to be here. Now I can finally meet the Kigali expats that I have been talking to online for the past 3 weeks. In fact, one of them will be meeting me at the airport to help get me used to the city.

Egypt is more than just pyramids, ruins and tombs. The Red Sea provides some of the best scuba diving in the world and should be explored by anyone that loves the ocean and the amazing collection of creatures that live beneath its surface. The coral reefs in this part of the world are still some of the world’s best and there are tons of things to do in Dahab, which is the town that I most admire in the area, even besides diving. Once you get a chance to check out the location, I bet you end up staying for a good, long while. Personally, I stayed a month and could have stayed far longer.

Here are some suggestions, from the perspective of a former Hawaii born resident, on how to get to Hawaii as well as to make the most out of your travel dollar once you get there. I used to live in Florida, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and Kansas and when I lived in these areas, I frequently had to make trips back to Hawaii.
If you live on the east coast, you have to be prepared for a very long flight in order to get to Hawaii. The only carriers that have direct flights to Hawaii from the east coast are Continental Airlines, now United Airlines, from Newark and Delta Airlines out of Atlanta. So unless you are using these carriers out of these 2 cities, be prepared to add another 2 to 3 hours your flight because you will have to make at least one more connection at another airport.
If you live in the Midwest or in the Rocky Mountain States, you can get direct flights out of Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City or Dallas. American flies out of Dallas and Chicago; United out of Chicago and Denver; and Delta out of Salt Lake City.
You are in luck if you live on the west coast or Southwest, where you have a lot of options to get to Hawaii. Every major city on the west coast has direct flights to Hawaii, including Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Once you get to Hawaii, you should try and stay at one of the many local hotel chains. They are just as good as the major hotel chains; but are typically less expensive. If you are staying in Honolulu and have a lot of time, use the bus instead of renting a car. Honolulu has a great bus system. Plus by doing so, you will be avoiding the high parking fees charged by all of the hotels in Waikiki. These are just some ideas on how to get to Hawaii cheaply. Stay tuned for more in the future.

When many people hear the word country club, they immediately jump to the conclusion that they are made up of a certain group of people that are very snooty and “high class”, and this in fact this was the way I felt about them as well until I recently joined a Whittier Private Golf Club this last year and after meeting many of the members, nothing could be further from the truth. The people here are very friendly and extremely down to earth and I could see my family and their families becoming close friends in the years to come. Like my mother always said, never judge a book by its cover.
