Shotguns and Today’s Cops

Patternmaster chokes, Winchester Ammo, Browning rifles, Remington rifles

Today’s police and law enforcement officials aren’t often known to carry shotguns and sometimes it feels as though today’s police only carry handguns as part of their arsenal when they are on the road and on duty and it’s interesting to see older films where a person in law enforcement will be carrying around a large rifle instead of one of the more common Taurus handguns that many individuals in law enforcement prefer to carry these days. For a half century law enforcement officials predominantly carried a shoulder weapon while on duty but that has changed quite significantly in recent years.

There are a number of people who are aware of the situation who suggest that a shotgun is not something that will ever be carried by anyone in law enforcement ever again and that it is truly a relic of another era and that as a weapon it has even become somewhat obsolete. But some people believe differently and that this type of weapon could still resemble a viable and versatile option as far as law enforcement weaponry is concerned.

One issue that does affect law enforcement individuals who choose to use shotguns is the fact that there is significant recoil with which to contend and this makes it much more difficult to figure out how best to utilize this weapon without having to deal with the rearward thrust of the weapon. The additions of body armor and jackets worn in the winter make it even more difficult to properly use a shotgun.
